City of Joburg Property Company Confirms Musawakhe Makhunga As CEO

The City of Joburg Property Company (JPC) has officially appointed Mr. Musawakhe (Musah) Makhunga as its Chief Executive Officer, effective 1 September 2025. His appointment is for a fixed term of five years.

Makhunga has been serving as Acting CEO, where he successfully steered the organisation through a crucial period of transition. Under his interim leadership, JPC maintained stability while advancing its mission of promoting sustainable property development and management across the City of Johannesburg.

The JPC Board expressed full confidence in his ability to take the organisation forward. With extensive experience in public sector property management and a strong understanding of institutional frameworks, Makhunga is expected to strengthen stakeholder partnerships and enhance the company’s role in supporting the city’s broader development agenda.

JPC Board Chairperson Simon Motha welcomed the appointment, noting the importance of leadership continuity.

“We are delighted to appoint Makhunga as JPC’s leader. The appointment brings continuity, stability, and new energy to the company’s operations. We are certain that his strategic direction will be critical in leading JPC’s agenda and positioning it in line with the City’s overall development goals.”
