Repo rate remains unchanged
South African Reserve Bank Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) has decided to keep the repo rate unchanged at 6.75%. Repo Rate: Remains at 6.75% per year, Prime Lending Rate: Remains at 10.25%. The decision was a split vote among MPC members (four favored holding, two favored a 25-basis-point cut). The bank is acting cautiously, wanting to see further declines in inflation expectations and citing risks like potential electricity tariff hikes. Inflation is expected to slow down after reaching a peak in December 2025. This decision followed a series of cuts that had previously lowered the rate to 6.75%. The next Monetary Policy Committee statement is expected later in 2026, with further,5 meetings scheduled throughout the year.
