The PEP mini Netball programme is back for 2026, continuing its mission to empower young girls across the country through sport while strengthening grassroots development.

Now entering its fourth year, the initiative has grown into a key platform for youth netball in South Africa, with this year’s edition promising to be its biggest yet. Coaching sessions officially got underway on 16 April, with a nationwide rollout that will include 40 netball festivals across all nine provinces.

Since its launch in 2023, the programme has made a significant impact at community level, providing opportunities for girls in the under-7, under-8 and under-9 age groups to engage in structured sport. More than 20,000 young players have already benefited, while over 1,270 coaches have been trained to guide and mentor the next generation.

According to PEP Chief Executive of Customer Commerce, Beyers van der Merwe, the initiative continues to serve as a powerful vehicle for social change.

“PEP mini Netball has become a powerful platform for positive change in communities across South Africa. As we enter the fourth year, PEP remains committed to creating opportunities for young girls to participate in sport, build confidence, and develop essential life skills. We are incredibly proud of the impact the programme has had to date and look forward to continuing to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our communities,” he said.

The programme also continues to benefit from expert guidance, with coaching sessions led by ambassador Dumisani Chauke, alongside sports scientist Elsje Jordaan and motivational speaker Minnette Dempsey. Their involvement ensures that coaches and volunteers are equipped with the necessary tools to develop young talent effectively.

Chauke, who has been closely involved in the initiative, highlighted the importance of continuity and growth within the programme.

“Seeing the growth of these young players year-on-year has been incredibly rewarding, and I’m excited to be back on the ground, working with coaches and players who are shaping the future of South African netball,” he said.

Working in partnership with South African Schools Netball, the programme continues to emphasise inclusivity, teamwork and confidence-building, while also strengthening community ties through sport.

With its expanding footprint and growing influence, the PEP mini Netball programme remains committed to inspiring the future of South African sport – one player, one coach and one festival at a time.
