DA Ready For Landmark Federal Congress This Weekend

The Democratic Alliance has confirmed its full readiness for this weekend’s highly anticipated Federal Congress, with final preparations completed ahead of the two-day gathering set to take place at Gallagher Convention Centre.
Addressing the media on Thursday, party officials outlined the scale and significance of the event, describing it as the largest congress in the DA’s history.
More than 2,000 delegates from across South Africa – as well as representatives from the party’s international structures – are expected to attend.
The congress, scheduled for 11 and 12 April, marks a key moment for the party as it prepares to elect new leadership, deliberate on policy proposals, and chart its strategic direction under the banner of its slogan, “Get South Africa Working.”
Presiding officers emphasised that the event is the culmination of an extensive internal process that began over a year ago, including membership verification, branch audits, and provincial structures being strengthened through various organisational processes.
“We can say with confidence that every element – from delegate nomination and verification to logistical coordination – has been carefully planned and successfully executed,” one of the presiding officers said.
The party also stressed that systems are in place to ensure fairness and transparency throughout the proceedings.
Presiding officers will act as neutral custodians, overseeing voting processes and ensuring compliance with the DA’s constitution.
From an operational perspective, organisers confirmed that accreditation, venue readiness, and media coordination have all been tested and are expected to run smoothly over the course of the weekend.
The congress will also reflect the party’s diversity, with representation drawn proportionally from provinces, public representatives, and grassroots branch members.
Notably, the DA highlighted that a significant portion of delegates come from branch structures to ensure balanced representation beyond elected officials.
In addition to leadership elections, policy discussions are expected to feature prominently, with numerous proposals set to be tabled – some extending into both days of the congress programme.
With all systems in place and confidence high among organisers, the DA expects a seamless and professionally run event, as it seeks to position itself strongly ahead of the country’s evolving political landscape.
