SAB Raises A Glass To Innovation And Responsibility At Chamdor Brewery Event

The South African Breweries (SAB) reaffirmed its leadership in responsible drinking and beverage innovation as it hosted the Cheers to Responsibility celebration at its world-class Chamdor Brewery on Thursday. The engagement brought together key government partners, media, and industry stakeholders to showcase SAB’s growing investment in responsible consumption and locally produced product innovation.

With consumer expectations evolving rapidly, SAB’s strategic focus has been clear: broaden choice while promoting moderation. Since 2022, the brewery giant has injected more than R19.5 billion into innovation across its facilities — expanding production capacity and bolstering the availability of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages brewed in South Africa.

This long-term investment supports sustainable growth across the beverage industry, while ensuring consumers enjoy premium options that reflect their lifestyles and values.

Pioneering Non-Alcoholic Enjoyment

Guests at the Chamdor Brewery received rare behind-the-scenes access to the cutting-edge technologies powering SAB’s latest innovations — from de-alcoholisation techniques to sophisticated flavour profiling tools.

SAB’s pioneering role in non-alcoholic beverages has been years in the making. The launch of Castle Free in 2017 established the brand as an industry first-mover. This was followed by Corona Cero in 2024 — and now, Brutal Fruit Spritzer 0.0, a stylish and refreshing alcohol-free twist on a fan-favourite brand.

The latest entrant arrives amid surging consumer demand for products that inspire mindful enjoyment without compromise.

“We are proud to introduce Brutal Fruit 0.0, another milestone in our journey to expand consumer choice and promote moderation,” said Zoleka Lisa, Vice President of Corporate Affairs at SAB. “Responsibility remains central to who we are as a business, and innovation like this helps us create a culture of balanced choices across South Africa.”

“Brutal Fruit 0.0 represents more than just product innovation — it’s about reimagining enjoyment for today’s consumer,” added Leanne Martin, Vice President of Innovation & Beyond Beer at SAB. “This launch proves that innovation and responsibility can go hand in hand.”

A Vision Aligned With South Africa’s Future

As a brand woven into the fabric of South African life for more than 130 years, SAB continues to evolve its purpose — ensuring sustainability, growth, and community empowerment move together.

By advancing non-alcoholic brands, encouraging responsible consumption, and investing in world-class local production, the company aims to build a beer ecosystem that benefits consumers, retailers and the broader society.

The symbolic toast that concluded the event reflected the shared commitment to a nation where drinking responsibly isn’t a limitation — but a celebration of choice.

SAB will continue to champion a future with more cheers, more innovation, and more responsibility.
